Congratulate! Professor Ming-An Chung from the Department of Electronic Engineering led graduate students and undergraduates to win the Best Conference Paper Award at the 3rd IEEE International Conference on Electronic Communications, Internet of Things, and Big Data 2023 (IEEE ICEIB 2023).
The thesis topic is Road Pothole Detection Algorithm and Guide Belt Designed for The Visually Impaired.
The team developed a belt system for the visually impaired and used deep learning methods to identify obstacles to prevent the visually impaired from colliding with obstacles. This system perceives the surrounding environment through the camera and performs object detection and recognition. When the system detects an obstacle ahead, it will calculate the best direction of travel based on an algorithm and send vibrations on the side of the belt to guide the user to the best route to avoid collisions with obstacles. This system assists the visually impaired in moving more safely, reduces the risk of collision with obstacles, and at the same time, improves the autonomy and quality of life of people who are blind.
